SAMBO in CHILDREN OF ASIA Program of International Sports Games
On July 4-16 in Yakutsk (Russia), Sambo competitions will take place as a part of International Sports Games Children of Asia. On the Sambo mats of Yakutsk will appear the athletes born in 1996-97 in weight categories of 42, 48, 56, 63, 73 and 78+ kg (men) and 38, 42, 48, 56, 65 and 70+ kg (women).
The first International Sports Games Children of Asia were held in 1996; they were dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Olympic movement. The Games have very high status in the modern sport world: they are under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee and under the patronage of Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia.
The Children of Asia Games are similar to the Youth Olympic Games as this Asian youth forum was the prototype of the first Summer Olympic Youth Games held in Singapore in 2010.
"One of the IOC's requirements to Federations seeking to join the Olympic family is that their respective sports are included in the programs of Multisport Games. The Children of Asia Games are exactly the kind of sports forum we need, and I am happy that SAMBO is a part of their program. However, the most important thing behind such events is the way such competitions influence the young people of the world. It is exactly the kind of event that can push them towards sports and healthy lifestyle. By taking such decision, they often change their life making it more successful, balanced and happy", - believes Vasily Shestakov, the President of FIAS.
The Children of Asia International Sports Games will be held in the framework of the forum Russia - Country of Sports. Medals events will be held in 20 sports including wrestling and power lifting for athletes with various categories of disability.
The emblem of the V International Sports Games Children of Asia is a little mammoth holding a torch with fire of five Olympic colors.
The number of countries participating in the Asian Children's Games is constantly growing. In 2008, the list of participants included 16 teams; this year, their number has doubled: now, the teams from 30 countries of the world will take part in the competitions. The remarkable fact is that many athletes who had taken part in the Asian Games later became participants, medalists and winners of European and World Championships and Olympic Games.
The 2012 Games have not yet started but they already have their heroes: the Games' ambassadors. The ambassadors of 2012 are persons of many merits who approved themselves both in sports and in social life. The ideas of strengthening world peace and friendship through the future Games are now promoted by Alexandra Kostenyuk, Europe and World Champion in Chess; Georgy Balakshin, Europe and Olympic Champion in boxing; Leonid Spiridonov, Europe and Olympic Champion in wrestling; Dmitry Nosov, Europe and Olympic Champion in judo; and Sergei Belov, Olympic and World Champion in basketball.
Now, less than a week is left until the beginning of the Children of Asia Games. Soon we shall know the names of champions and medalists of the Games who surely will become no less famous and titled than the today's Ambassadors of the Games who now inspire the young people by their sports and life success to win their today's victories.
